What Are Sports Coaching - 1211 Words

Defining Coaching In this assessment, I will display my research on the specific question that is; â€Å"what is sports coaching?† I will critically analyse the views, thoughts and mainly definitions of various sporting bodies, clubs and current published journals. For every article being analysed, I will separate my research into the validity and reliability of the journal and to conclude, all evaluated evidence will be related to the topic question. The first view towards defining sports coaching is that of Andras S. Szabo. The article has two main themes, which can be identified as: the main elements and characteristics of what a good coach should be and have; and the outlook of a coach’s role outside of sport, relating to life†¦show more content†¦The extremely vague question is answered by Szabo explaining that the role of the sports coach does not stop at just the instructing of sports, they can be coaches, guides and leaders in the lives of others. â€Å"The role of the coach will be diverse and varied, from demonstrator, instructor and friend to mentor, adviser, motivator, organizer, leader, planner, decision maker and the fountain of all knowledge† (Szabo. 2012) Many articles, such as the ‘international coaching framework’ created by the International Coaching Council for Excellence, support the external view of the coach seen as a life coach; guide; instructor and not just in the sporting environment. The International Coaching Council for Excellence has its own view of what roles a coach could be but it is extremely general and indirect. Within the paper â€Å" International Sport Coaching Framework†, stated is two clear categories of which a coach can be involved in. Participation coaching is classified, as the educating of beginners of the lowest ability, of all ages in any sport, basically this type of coach is responsible for a positive experience in a population with little to no sport or physical activity background. On the other end of the spectrum is the performance coaching, these coaches are by the side of the upcoming, talented and the worlds best athletes.
